Secure and Modular Sensor Network for an Ambient Assisted Living Field Study.

For the field study of an ambient assisted living research project a secure and modular sensor network is required. The design considerations, requirements and implementation of this sensor network are presented in the paper. The system collects data from various health and smart home sensors installed in 68 test households. The data is transmitted to the research institute and stored in a central database. A special focus hereby is finding the balance between the demand of the research project to gather as much data as possible and strict privacy demands. The paper focuses on the technical design and implementation of the sensor network. Besides the technical implementation, a short description and evaluation of the field study with 76 participants is presented. The analysis and interpretation of the collected data is not in the scope of this work.
